How to Subscribe to a blog (AKA: how to subscribe to my blog :-) )
Posted on March 31, 2008
Hey, You know… I actually blog a few times a week??!!! Wouldn’t it be really great to hear all about the Wonderful insight and daily life stuff my blog has to offer coming directly to you without having to actually keep checking my site for the updates? (wow long sentence)
Its totally Easy !
First, you will need a “blog reader” (aka an Aggregator) . If you have Mozzilla Foxfire, its already built in and you don’t have to do anything. Or you can use another program like Google Reader
Once you have one of these programs, Click HERE (or at the bottom of this page where it says in really big letters, “subscribe here”)
Mozzilla will put an icon something like this :
in your browser’s tool bar. When you click on it it will have the blogs right there. OR if you use Google the reader will walk you right through it.
If you do, I promise to take 10 seconds out of the day just to smile and give you a silent thank you.
Have a great day,
Don

What an amazing couple I had the pleasure of shooting engagement photos of the other day! (Carol and Daniel)
Currently they live in Texas, but plan to move back to the LA Area. They already had booked a photographer for their wedding when they found me. But I’m so delighted to be able to shoot their engagement photos. Check out the link to see the full shoot :

Here is what they had to say about it:
“Hi Don,
Thank you so much for the email and the wonderful experience with our photo shoot. We absolutely love our pictures, and we’re going to have a hard time narrowing down our favorites. We especially love the picture of the heart shaped tree. It looks so magical! We’re so glad to have found such a talented photographer like you for our engagement photos. Thanks so much again for being so great to work with and for taking such great pictures too!
We’ll be in touch soon about the pictures we’d like for our sign in book. Thanks.
Take care~

Infra-red Photography & Infra-red Wedding photography
Posted on March 27, 2008
Infra-Red Photography (aka infared – infa red – infrared photographs. )
No, its not for seeing in the dark. Infra-red photography has been very popular for decades, Mostly in the area of wedding photography. You probabily have seen an infra-red photo and just thought it was a beautiful black and white or sepia photo. What makes infra-red photos so beautiful and different than others is that the color spectrum is different that what the eye sees.
The most notable differences are as follows: Foliage turns white, Sky’s become darker and more defined. Skin becomes more translucent and synthetic fibers in clothes also change to white.
See the photo below. It was shot in Temecula, ca wine country in a vineyard. Notice the leaves on the vines.. usually they would be a dark color in a black and white. Also the camera picked up some of the clouds high up in the sky which were not at all visible to the naked eye. It was an overcast day. ( to the naked eye it was just all gray bland-ness)

Artist Project Los Angeles
Posted on March 23, 2008
As some of you may know. I head up a group of Artist’s call Artist Project Los Angeles. (most of them are photographers, however we are open to all mediums).
The idea is to constantly be exploring out creativity and get out side the box, which is especially helpful for people who actually do art for a living.
The picture below I call “The Eye of Prugh” – it fits our project topic “Voyeur”. The extra poetry is that the eye is that of a fellow photographer… a voyeur himself.
If you are in the Los Angeles area, an artist and would like to join. We’d love to have you. It is open to all skill levels. Everyone’s development is personal. Email me : don@norrisphoto.com

Destination Weddings?
Posted on March 23, 2008
You know… I may be a Los Angeles based southern California wedding photographer but it doesn’t mean I don’t travel.
I’ll go just about anywhere. It doesn’t have to be a fancy destination wedding in Cabo San Lucas, St. Maartin, Hawaii, Rome or Paris. (although they are really nice)
I’ll go to Boise Idaho, Wilmington Delaware, & even Podunk Massachusetts if I have the availability. Most of the time the only extra expense to get exactly the photographer you REALLY want is to handle all travel expenses and not book the lowest package.
You can be anywhere and still get the BEST artist to photograph your wedding. ANYWHERE.
Have you looked around your area and not found what you are looking for? Hate the photographers in your local strip mall? Do they lack artistic vision? Do the photos look posed and like you just got out of the prom?
I HAVE THE SOLUTION!
Import the photographer you want! The photographers the furthest away may be more willing to provide you with that extra level of service since its a new and exciting place to shoot. (something different artistically)
So… Forget the locals, import your photographer. You’ll be glad you did. (and your friends will be so jealous.

New Products!!!!
Posted on March 23, 2008
Hi All,
After the wedding and portrait photographer’s international convention, I’ve got some new great ideas! I’ve decided to include a few new most excellent items in my top packages for wedding photography! Although most of my wedding packages are really stocked, these are a few NEW things I’m excited about!
Some of the new additions are:
Make-up artist’s * I know who is good, Why not?
A photo booth with a technician
First Class Photo Postage Stamps! (from the Engagement or Wedding)
Picture thank you cards to go with the stamps (and not cheep ones either, really nice stuff)
Engagement Magazines (Like the montage coffee table books, but really easy to handle and much more casual, great for engagements)
a Canvas wall portrait up to 6ft x6ft !!! (as seen on Oprah, yea OPRAH),
Projected Slide Shows at the reception (From pictures just shot at the wedding!) (I do this for a few clients a year, time to package it!)
Waving of sitting fees for LIFE for your family. * so when the little ones come along… give me a ring!
& I returned the “Trash the Dress” session to the package list. (if this offends you.. Its a great way to also introduce the idea donating your dress to charity.. I know a few great ones)
Whoooo… I’m tingling.

People you meet at a wedding convention in Vegas

Do you remember when you were a kid and rebelled against you parents, possibly explored a little punk thing.. got that leather jacket or pierced something more than just an ear? These kids went further than the usual punk rock dress up. They are in some Vegas scary punk rock clown posse. Wow, I hear they even perform at weddings. Making balloons of animals and popping them before they give them to the kids…. Just kidding.
I met them wandering the streets of Vegas while I was shooting with a few other photographer friends during the Wedding Photographer Conference (WPPI)
They were actually very nice, loved the camera even if they looked a little scary and it wasn’t Halloween.

Wedding and Portrait Photograpers International (WPPI)
Posted on March 20, 2008
What an amazing time. I just returned from a week long convention in Vegas for the wedding and portrait photographers international. it is nice to be a southern California wedding photographer and have the luxury of driving rather than flying.
Even though I this is my 5th straight year and I’ve seen most of the speakers before, I always get so much out of it. From new inspiration, new products, new ideas and great new ways I can help my clients to the best of my abilities.
I may bring in Cypress wedding albums as a new line for my traditional matted albums. They tend to be a bit more feminine and completely hand crafted. The paper is more textured and the edges are unfinished, its more like ART than an album. They are much more expensive than some of the other albums I carry, but they are so different that I think I would be a good option to offer. here is a link to the website
http://www.cypressalbums.com/
After the convention: I came back and reworked the website. I plan to make several changes over the next few months… Until wedding season, that is..
Another product I plan to be offering more canvas options in my packages. I found a supplier that I absolutely LOVE. They are amazing! I plan to redo my entire gallery space in the coming Month.
I saw many great friends. Like Joe Buissink (Celebrity Wedding photographer here in Los Angeles and friend) who I collaborate with several times a year. And met so many new ones like the delightful Julia & Robert( Weddings photographers from NY) and Oleksander (”Alex”) from Oleksander Photography who Inspired me to start “blogging” and So many others.
Also. I signed up to “Now I lay me down to sleep” at the WPPI convention. I’m not sure I should mention this.. (cause its a downer) But I am. I do as much charity as I possibly can and this one is a very difficult one. I signed up to volunteer my services to families with terminally ill children. Since I love kids and actually spent a good deal of my adolescence in hospitals myself I can relate (I was in a fire when I was 7- burn reconstruction to my back and arm.) I know how tough it was on my family. Preserving the memories of loved ones, especially when you are faced with the clear realization of its finite nature is so important. Offering my services was a difficult decision, but an important one.
OK Blogger Downer!! Thats it for now. I’ll post some pictures soon after I find out how exactly to do it.
Was I rambling too much? Did it make sense? I missed so much and it was so free form, all I can think about is my grade school English teacher correcting everything.
Have a great day, comments appreciated.
