Getting Self Centered? Oh Yes.

Posted on April 28, 2008

I recently discovered some truly amazing people and thought I’d share. This group is called the “The selfcentered Tour”. They travel all around the world getting people centered in themselves. It isn’t what you think of typically when you think of yoga. Its more like meditation and breath work rather than moving around in all the poses with people piled on top of you. Its a lot like kundalini and Quigong (both i practice and love). Wow it is so great to find that power, energy and peace inside. It come through is all your daily life stuff and helps make the day that much more beautiful. —Sorry tangent.

Just to give you a little background. The movement was started by the son of Deepak Chopra’s partner. He traveled with them all over the world and worked in the center all of his life. This is the new generation of what Deepak started. Out of the 80s and into the year 2000. Mediation for everyone. He is a really special individual, one of a kind. For starters, he is on a personal quest to eliminate handshakes. When you meet him, he’ll hug you instead and it actually isn’t weird! You feel his energy and you get it. He actually connects when you are talking.

Ok. Here are some pictures from the event I photographed for them in San Diego. Check out everyone meditation on the street. It’s call a PDM or Public Display of Mediation. Crazy.. I love it.

Around town: La Rotary Wine Tasting

Posted on April 21, 2008

This past Sunday Peter Lattey (Artist and LA 5 Rotary Member) had a wine tasting and sculpture exhibition ( “Jazz in Wood”) at his residential gallery in Los Angeles.

It was great! There were about 100 fantastic people. I even ran into a few unexpected ones, like a makeup artist I worked with last year at Emily and William’s Wedding.

Here are a few pictures from the event. The one of Peter in his studio is really funny. He uses the chain saw to cut down the logs he uses to create his amazing jazzy wood work. ( he really isn’t that scary in person I promise)

The Black Rock Yearbook

Posted on April 17, 2008

Hi all,

As some of you know.. for creative inspiration and greater sense of attachment to humanity, every year I travel to Black Rock City (yes… Burningman)

I head a camp of photographers and other artists called “The Black Rock Yearbook” or Yearbook Camp.

Every year we create a yearbook for the Black rock arts foundation. And… HERE IT IS!!!! I shot about 80% of it. Not every photographer is a professional so there may be some inconsistency.

Its FUN! but there is nudity. so adjust your senses accordingly.

Weekly Wedding Tip: The second pair of shoes

Posted on April 6, 2008

Just a great tip for the bide to be. Usually the amazing looking heals that you want to wear with your gown aren’t too comfy as you enter the dance floor for the second of 3 rd time of the eventing ( not to mention what your feet will feel like the next day) So… What about a second pair of shoes for your wedding.. Both match the gown and are equally amazing. Just one is better the walk and dance in. Ususally the second pair looks like a soft white slipper. (There may be another name for it, but I don’t know it) You may just thank me :-)

Keep on dancing!

Unusual Wedding and Event Ideas: Hypnosis’s?

Posted on April 2, 2008

Ok… Say it with me… You will love him forever…. You will always have dinner ready when he comes home… You will be tolerant of his sloth-like living…. When ever you feel the urge to nag instead you will bring him a beer… Hmmmm… Have you ever thought of having a hypnotist at your wedding ????

We’ll someone has.I’d like to introduce you to Marc Bachrach. He does Hypnotism shows (and hypnotherapy) for events. Yes he is the guy I always feared would turn me into a chicken in front of a large audience and totally embarrass me.

I met him at ISES (the International Special Events Society) last week and had the pleasure of visiting him at his home. He did a few stress management exercises with me very similar to a guided meditation. I have to say it was awesome. (If you ever want to forget that last relationship and move on to find the true love that will bring you wedded bliss which would require my services.. Have you considered… Hypnosis?)

Here is a link to his website… Check him out HERE

Geek’n out: Photo Mechanic

Posted on April 1, 2008

I pride myself on my fast back end processing time. So when someone recommends a new way to do something in processing I generally tend to tune them out.

I still shoot RAW, even though I know many shooters even most of the top wedding photographers I know actually have reverted back to JPG to cut down processing time. So my current process is this: I download the shoot into a folder on one of my hard drives, open Adobe Bridge and let it cash and come back in an hour (for about 3000 photos) .

I recently tried Photo Mechanic because a friend installed in on my laptop and I felt compelled to give him the obligatory look & see.

Now… Light room and God forbid aperture SLOW everything down. (Yes they suck if speed is your objective) But Holy POOP! Wow. Photo Mechanic may not do the corrections that aperture can do. But for selecting images the load time is next to instantaneous even with the images really big. This selection process in Bridge is tedious and slow(in comparison) due the load time. Then After you make the selections in Photo Mechanic you sort them and copy out the ones you selected to a new folder to work on. THEN I open bridge and only cash the images I selected so I can correct the ones I want.

Yes it may be a second step to the process. But I dare you to try this. It totally is saving me at least 1 to 2 hours. per job. AND if I ever need to do a slide show at a wedding on the fly, IT IS ACTUALLY POSSIBLE & EASY for a photographer who shoots in RAW (like myself)!

Yes I geek out with the best of them. Rock on!
