Working for Don

Hey everyone! My dad (don) has decided to hand over the reigns for a bit and have me blog instead. I am his assistant over the summers. I pretty much carry and guard the cameras while he’s shooting, and get out any supplies he needs beforehand so he can be on top of his game. Doesn’t sound very exciting, right? Well, it isn’t, to be honest. Of course, I’m just fourteen, so most of the things my dad drags me to do seem boring. But being a caddy for my dad really does give you a good look into the photography business up close, and I have to say, it really is much more than point and shoot. You have to get exposure right, make sure everything’s in focus, set up the perfect shots, and don’t even get me started about retouching. It is a complex and difficult business. God only knows how he does it. I’d be asleep halfway through the ceremony curled up while drooling on my camera, as my second photographer stands there confused. Oh well. Anyway, through all the tears, sweat and misery, he somehow manages to whip out great pictures that everybody loves, and can use to remember their special day for the rest of their lives.

Engagement Time

Wow… Engagements Abound! I haven’t been able to post picts here on the blog from the engagement shoots because the season has sprung and I’m B-U-S-Y. I think I shot 5 engagements in the last week. (on top of the weddings!!!)

Pulling my hair out a little, working long hours and loving it. Just my speed.

Side note:

A client dropped in tonight to pick up her wedding albums. She was SOOOOOO HAPPY. Almost in tears. (so happy she even tipped me, wow… not normal… but TOTALLY awesome) Honestly, the books were amazing.

I so love what I do. But its almost 10pm and I’m GOING to leave my studio now. Perhaps get out for an hour get a beer and start again first thing in the AM. (Another engagement shoot tomorrow. Yea… during the week, huh?)
