The photography of Donald Norris
Things actors need to know to know when before they get headshots. How to get headshots. How to prepair. Clothing selection, type casting .
Most roles for casting fall into 1 of 4 general categories: the dateable type, the job type,
the family type, and the skilled or character type. Within each category, we get more specific
to fit the real You.
For example: there are many "job types"; a teacher would dress differently than a lawyer;
the "dateable type" ranges from nice guy/good girl all the way to trashy. It is important to identify
where you want to market yourself and where you best "fit."
Ask yourself this question: If you were responsible for casting a particular role, what would
you expect the actor coming in for that role to wear? The trick is to be really specific - this way,
when someone picks up your headshot, they know exactly how to cast you.
- Get a good nights rest
- Print the directions,
- Bring your Ipod or cds
- Bring at least one alternate for every outfit, but no more than two
- Check your clothes to make sure they are clean and ironed
- Don’t worry about your pants, unless we are shooting modeling stuff too
- Avoid logos and distracting patterns
- White is fine as long as it is under something or sleeveless/strapless
- Copies of any old headshots if you have them
